So today my previously nonexistent [I thought] money woes reared their ugly head–with rent, student loans, improv tuition, utilities, and bike repair costs hitting me all at once, I confined myself to my apartment, feeling pretty down in the dumps. By the way, why is it that everyone who works in a bike shop has to have a chip on their shoulder? Seriously, maybe you think I should be able to replace brake pads and change a tire myself, but aren’t you glad I can’t? I mean, what with these troubling economic times and all, shouldn’t the dude in the bike shop be glad I don’t go out and get a Time-Life series on bike repair? Assuming such a series exists?
Anyway, after whiling away a few hours with a television show I’m too embarrassed to mention by name, I decided to do a little solo training session. That sounds like a segue into an erotic interlude, but this is neither the time nor the place. So I did some stretches, some planks, and some tempo push-ups [propped against the arm of the couch. My body was probably at a forty five degree angle, but it’s the effort that counts, right?]. And then I did a mile and a half on the treadmill without stopping!
I’m sure anyone who runs in any capacity would read that and think it’s cute: “You keep reaching for the stars, little one.” But I don’t think I could have done that two months ago. And my entire mood changed! I felt really upbeat and positive, my blood pumping, working up a sweat. Who needs money? I’ve got an incrementally increasing endurance! And slightly improved flexibility and upper body strength!
I feel silly posting every little accomplishment on here, but I promise that soon they will be more impressive. Soon, this will be me:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Thanks for doing this Liz! I haven’t ran in two weeks now (since my horrific 5k) but you’ve motivated me to get start again. Think I’m gonna register for another race!
You are doing some good work, Liz.
I will bring my clippers to the gym monday!
go liz, GO!!!
Every accomplishment is great, no matter how small you think it is. Way to go solo! Means your head and heart are getting more in balance with each other!
Liz the Tri Slayer!
See you got the video to work 🙂
Way to go Liz! Inspiring!
